*Where are you from?
We currently live in Tennessee, but adopted in other states.
*Animals(s) (Age, Breed & Name)?
We have 1 rescue chinchilla from Alaska, Athena, 2 year old female.
1 rescue Rhodesian Ridgeback from Alaska, Dori, 3 year old female.
1 rescue Rottweiler/Golden mix from Georgia, Blinner, 6 year old male.
1 puppy I kept from a litter, Brittany Spaniel/Lab mix, Hound, 10 year old female.
*Interesting Facts About Your Animal(s)?
We have had Blinner and Hound since they were puppies, but Athena & Dori were both rescued from extremely abusive & neglected situations. This being the case, they both suffer from medical issues. And had extreme trust issues. People tell us that we’re stupid for adopting “broken” animals, but if they could see the changes we have seen in them, I think they would understand why we give second chances.
*Animal(s) Favorite Treat?
Homemade doggy treats. You can literally see them start drooling as they’re baking in the oven.
*Animal(s) Favorite Trick?
We can hide toys from Blinner & tell him what to go get & he will find them.
Athena gives kisses & will walk on her little back legs for treats.
*Where is your pet(s) favorite place to go?
Athena loves to play in the bathroom.
The dogs LOVE the dog park, walking around the neighborhood, & visiting with family.
*Perspective on Adopting a Rescue?
In my experience, I have seen it isn’t for everyone. Some people don’t realize there are typically underlying issues & they may have to deal with separation anxieties, re potty training, socialization issues, or unforeseen medical issues. BUT I do strongly encourage adopting a rescue. They appreciate the second chance and will do everything in their power to please you, earn your love, earn your trust & can be some of the most loyal creatures on Earth,
*What’s your favorite thing to do with your dog (walks, going to a park, playing games etc.)?
Walks, Parks, Fetch, Car Rides, Cuddles!
“Love is a four-legged word.”
“A true friend leave paw prints on your heart.”
*Favorite website to get pet information?
If we need help, we browse several pages, typically forums, so we can get varied/diverse responses.
*Do your animal(s) love to go for car rides?
Yes! Even Athena loves road trips & getting out of the house for a bit.
*What’s your favorite animal product?
We highly appreciate Kong products. They are a lifesaver for furniture & floors when we both have to be at work.
*Why do you think volunteering at an animal rescue/shelter is important?
Most animal rescues/shelters do not have time to pay special attention to the animals in the building. They are not shown personal attention, love, or really anything other than food/water/potty breaks.
*Anything extra you would like to add?
At first I was extremely angry and heartbroken when i saw the shape Athena & Dori were in. Athena had been cast aside, labeled as a biter, & left alone in a glass box. Dori was left to sleep in a corner by herself, the only attempt to awaken her was to shove pills down her throat for her epilepsy. Then I took a different take on it. How is a broken heart or one full of anger going to help just watching it happen? Although I cannot save every animal left to fend for itself, hurt, confused, & lost, I had the abilities to save these two. To bring them into our home and show them what life should be like. With all the love, luxuries, & happiness they could possibly imagine. No one that would strike them out of anger or berate them over little things. And I know there are so many people out there that share my beliefs and that we don’t have enough resources to take care of all of them, but we can make all the difference for a few.
